"Miss Universe is a show that s watched by millions .... with 96
countries represented those delegates coming here with their
entourages, the international media, and the tourists coming for the
show the coverage would be massive," she was quoted by the Barbados
Advocate Newspaper on the weekend.
"It would show that [[Barbados]] has the potential to host events on
such a scale on a more permanent basis, after starting with CWC next
year," she added.
Ian Walcott of the NCF said one billion people view the show
annually and Barbados could never, on its own, afford advertising to
reach that many people in one go.
Miss Universe 1999 was held in [[Trinidad]] and [[Tobago]] - the first time in the Caribbean.
Miss Universe is an annual international beauty contest, and the
title for the winner of the contest, founded in 1952 by California
clothing company Pacific Mills. The pageant became part of Kayser-Roth
and then Gulf and Western Industries, before being acquired by Donald
Trump in 1996.
The [[Barbados]] Miss Universe show will be held November 5 in which a
local beauty queen will be selected for the Miss Universe 2007
competition.
