Economic promises
Thompson said in 1994 the BLP promised Barbadians a new, innovative
economic strategy for the country. But 12 years later and on the eve of
Barbados' 40th anniversary of Independence, Prime Minister Arthur's
"innovation" was to sell the heritage of Barbadians from under their
very feet.
He dismissed the BLP's recently launched Conversations With The Nation
mass meetings as nothing more than a "Cuss-fest" over the next few
weeks to say the most outrageous things about their opponents.
"If you believe that they are genuinely interested in having
'conversations with the people' 12 years after being elected, you would
have to be dreaming. Elections is what the conversations, the
television appearances by ministers and all the hoopla is about.
Elections will be held in a couple of months. Sooner than we think.
"The BLP is making preparations already and the argument by the BLP
will be that the World Cup is coming up and it would be dangerous to
change the government before the event. The issue is that we have to
live in Barbados after the World Cup," he said. (WG)
